Faculty

Q   How are faculty selected for participation in the RAHC?
A   Faculty status at the RAHC is open to all interested practitioners in the Valley. Individuals who are granted faculty status are appointed to the faculty of UT Health Science Center San Antonio. Selection of those to receive faculty appointments is based on the standards of The University of Texas System and The University of Texas Health Science Center. Criteria which are important in faculty selection include specialty training, years of experience, professional achievement, interest in teaching, willingness to include their patients on a teaching service, participation in faculty development activities, and willingness to participate in other faculty activities as a part of UT Health Science Center San Antonio.

Q   Where do the RAHC faculty come from?
A   The faculty is made up mostly of physicians who are already practicing in Valley communities. They continue to practice as they have in the past, but with part-time or volunteer faculty appointments they are able to teach residents and students at the same time that they see patients. Full-time faculty are not brought in unless it is needed to fulfill the educational or research mission of the RAHC.

The faculty is comprised primarily of qualified physicians. Faculty are designated as volunteer, part-time or full-time faculty through the UT Health Science Center San Antonio’s respective clinical departments.
