RAHC Vision Statement

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio vision for the Regional Academic Health Center is to establish excellent programs in medical education and research, comparable in quality to the San Antonio programs. The RAHC, which is comprised of a Medical Education Division and a Medical Research Division, is a geographically separated campus of UT Health Science Center San Antonio. The first facility to be constructed at the RAHC was the Medical Education Division in Harlingen, and the $25M of funding for this facility was obtained through state tuition revenue bonds (TRB). This RAHC flagship facility -- dedicated in June 2002--includes student classrooms, a medical library, faculty offices, administrative offices, a clinical skills center, and an auditorium. Since its dedication in June 2002, over 400 medical students have completed at least one clinical rotation at the RAHC Medical Education Division. In addition to medical student education, the RAHC includes a fully-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program which was established in partnership with Valley Baptist Medical Center -- the RAHC's primary teaching hospital.
The $20M RAHC Medical Research Division in Edinburg was funded by the UT-System with Permanent University Funds (PUF) and this facility was dedicated on April 25, 2006. This facility will provide an excellent venue for research on diseases that disproportionately affect the border populations of South Texas --- particularly diabetes and certain infectious diseases.
