Dean's Welcome
William L. Henrich, M.D., M.A.C.P.,
Dean, School of Medicine
On behalf of the faculty, students, and staff at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, I want to offer a warm welcome to the School of Medicine’s website. We are appreciative of your interest in our program.
Our School is relatively young, approaching only its 40th year of operation. In this relatively short time, however, many of the School's programs in education, research, and clinical service have grown in excellence and national prominence.
We offer a rigorous and highly articulated curriculum in a supportive and convivial setting for our students. Research at the School is growing and, in conjunction with partnerships within the Health Science Center and research institutions in San Antonio, is driving new discoveries which will pave the way to more hopeful tomorrows.
Clinical programs are also thriving. Strong partnerships with the University Health System, the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, and the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa System, as well as BAMC and Wilford Hall, provide a rewarding environment for clinical service and are a rich resource for both our learners and investigators. Hallmarks of clinical excellence now include superb trauma capability, transplantation, geriatrics, diabetes, and urology. Exciting new programs in cancer therapy, heart disease, and neurosurgery are now expanding.
Certain principles animate our work: a devotion to the sick and their families, a dedication to always seeking answers to the most vexing scientific questions, and fidelity to the concept we will provide the best education for all of our students. I hope you will get some sense of this dynamic spirit as you visit the website. While our emergence as a leader in medical education, research, and clinical care has come for our institution at a relatively young age, it is our collective pledge that our School will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.
I hope you will find what you read here appealing and that you will want to visit our talented and able faculty, students, and staff to learn more about us and our fine programs.
With warm regards,
William L. Henrich, M.D., M.A.C.P.
